ตลอด 11 ปีที่ผ่านมา ความรุนแรงในพื้นที่สามจังหวัดชายแดนใต้ได้เปลี่ยนชีวิตเด็กมากกว่า 6,000 คน จากที่เคยใช้ชีวิตอยู่อย่างปกติ ทำให้เขาต้องสูญเสียพ่อแม่และคนใกล้ตัว มีชีวิตอยู่อย่างหวาดกลัว ต้องหยุดเรียนหนังสือ ไม่มีรายได้ ในใจเต็มไปด้วยความแค้นที่พร้อมจะระเบิดออกมาตลอดเวลา มีความเสี่ยงที่จะถูกชักจูงเข้าไปก่อความรุนแรงอย่างไม่รู้จบ

กลุ่มลูกเหรียงได้ช่วยเหลือและเยียวยาเด็กๆเหล่านี้ และทำให้เด็กได้รับการศึกษา มีรายได้และมีอาหารให้เพียงพอ หรือพูดอีกนัยหนึ่งคือ กลุ่มลูกเหรียงเป็นครอบครัวใหม่ที่ให้โอกาสเด็กกลับมาดำรงชีวิตได้อย่างปกติและเติบโตขึ้นเป็นคนที่ดีของสังคม

ขั้นตอนการดำเนินโครงการ

กลุ่มลูกเหรียงลงพื้นที่ไปช่วยเหลือเด็กๆ และครอบครัว ตั้งแต่ทราบข่าวเหตุการณ์ และให้ความช่วยเหลือเบื้องต้น ตั้งแต่สิ่งของ ค่าใช้จ่ายที่จำเป็น เช่น ค่ารักษาพยาบาล เสื้อผ้า และอาหาร เป็นต้น
ให้ทุนการศึกษา เพื่อให้เด็กเข้าเรียนหนังสือจนถึงระดับปริญญาตรีหรือปวส ปัจจุบัน กลุ่มลูกเหรียงกำลังส่งเด็กทุนให้เรียนหนังสืออยู่ 174 คน
ในกรณีที่เด็กกำพร้าทั้งพ่อและแม่ หรือไม่มีคนในครอบครัวที่สามารถดูแลเด็กได้ กลุ่มลูกเหรียงจะรับเด็กเข้ามาเลี้ยงดูอยู่ใน “บ้านลูกเหรียง”
จัดค่ายเยียวยา โดยอาศัยกระบวนการทางศิลปะในการสำรวจและปรับสภาพจิตใจ ทำให้เด็กๆรู้จักการให้อภัย ลดความรู้สึกเคียดแค้น และลุกขึ้นมาช่วยเหลือเด็กๆคนอื่นที่ได้รับผลกระทบเหมือนกัน

นอกจากการช่วยเหลือและเยียวยาเด็กๆ ทางตรงแล้ว กลุ่มลูกเหรียงยังทำงานป้องกันความรุนแรงร่วมกับโรงเรียน เพื่อออกแบบกระบวนการโรงเรียนปลอดภัย (Safe School) เตรียมพร้อมรับมือเมื่อเหตุการณ์ความรุนแรงในโรงเรียน ให้เกิดการสูญเสียน้อยที่สุด และทำงานร่วมกับเครือข่ายในพื้นที่ เช่น อบต. แกนนำชุมชน เพื่อสร้างพื้นที่ปลอดภัยอย่างมีส่วนร่วม กิจกรรมต่างๆ ดำเนินการโดยเด็กๆ ที่ผ่านการเยียวยาจากกลุ่มลูกเหรียง ทำให้เห็นว่า กระบวนการช่วยเหลือเยียวยาของลูกเหรียงนั้น นอกจากจะช่วยเหลือเด็กๆ โดยตรงแล้ว ยังเป็นการสร้างสันติภาพในพื้นที่ในระยะยาวอีกด้วย
