เกี่ยวกับมูลนิธิ

มูลนิธิสร้างรอยยิ้ม (Operation Smile Foundation) เป็นองค์กรการกุศลที่ไม่แสวงหาผลกาไร ก่อตั้งที่ประเทศ สหรัฐอเมริกา ในปี พ.ศ. 2525 โดยนายแพทย์วิลเลียม แมกกี และภรรยา มีพันธกิจในการให้ความช่วยเหลือผู้ป่วยยากไร้ที่มี ภาวะปากแหว่งเพดานโหว่ รวมถึงแผลไฟไหม้ และความผิดปกติอื่น ๆ บนใบหน้า โดยไม่มีค่าใช้จ่าย ปัจจุบันมูลนิธิสร้างรอยยิ้มมี สานักงานกระจายอยู่ใน 38 ประเทศทั่วโลก

สาหรับในประเทศไทย การออกหน่วยลงพื้นที่ให้การผ่าตัดครั้งแรกของมูลนิธิสร้างรอยยิ้ม เกิดขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2540 โดย ได้รับความช่วยเหลือ และสนับสนุนจากอดีตนายกรัฐมนตรี พณฯท่าน อานันท์ ปันยารชุน และต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2544 มูลนิธิสร้าง รอยยิ้ม ประเทศไทย จึงได้รับการจดทะเบียนก่อตั้งเป็นองค์กรการกุศล ให้การรักษาผู้ป่วยภาวะปากแหว่งเพดานโหว่ที่ยากไร้ อาศัยในพื้นที่ห่างไกลทั้งในประเทศไทยและประเทศเพื่อนบ้าน ซึ่งจวบจนกระทั่งถึงปัจจุบันมีการมอบการผ่าตัดเปลี่ยนชีวิตจาก มูลนิธิสร้างรอยยิ้มไปแล้วกว่า 13,000 ครั้ง จากความอุตสาหะของคณะแพทย์ พยาบาลอาสาสมัคร และคณะทางานอาสาสมัคร ของมูลนิธิสร้างรอยยิ้ม

มูลนิธิสร้างรอยยิ้ม ประเทศไทย สร้างความยั่งยืนด้วยการมอบโอกาสทางการศึกษาให้แก่บุคลากรทางการแพทย์ของ ไทยมาตลอด โครงการด้านการศึกษาและฝึกอบรมของมูลนิธิถูกออกแบบให้เอื้อประโยชน์ต่อการวางแผนการรักษาภาวะปาก แหว่งเพดานโหว่ และแผลไหม้ ซึ่งเป็นอีกหนึ่งสาขาที่มูลนิธิเชี่ยวชาญและรับดูแล โครงการเหล่านี้ ได้แก่ การประชุมนานาชาติ ทางวิชาการ รวมถึงการแลกเปลี่ยนทางการศึกษา และการอบรมการช่วยชีวิตขั้นสูงจากสมาคมแพทย์โรคหัวใจแห่งสหรัฐอเมริกา (American Heart Association)

ข้อเท็จจริงเกี่ยวกับภาวะปากแหว่งเพดานโหว่

จากการเก็บข้อมูลเพื่อการศึกษา ในทุกๆ 3 นาที ทั่วโลก มีเด็กหนึ่งคนที่เกิดมาพร้อมกับภาวะปากแหว่งเพดานโหว่ และ เด็กที่เกิดมาพร้อมกับโรคปากแหว่งเพดานโหว่นั้นจะไม่สามารถดื่มนมแม่ หรือทานอาหารได้อย่างปกติ มีความผิดปกติทั้งใน การออกเสียง และได้ยินเสียง หรือมีปัญหากับระบบการหายใจ มักเกิดภาวะแทรกซ้อน เช่น ปอดบวม เด็กที่เกิดมาพร้อมโรคนี้ ต้องใช้ชีวิตอย่างหลบซ่อน ถูกกีดกันจากสังคม มักจะมองตนเองไร้ค่า และหลบเลี่ยงสังคม ใช้ชีวิตอย่างโดดเดี่ยว ในประเทศไทย มีผู้ป่วยเด็กปากแหว่งเพดานโหว่จานวนมากที่ไม่เคยได้รับโอกาสผ่าตัดแก้ไขเลยจนตลอดชีวิต

สาเหตุของภาวะปากแหว่ง เพดานโหว่

• สาเหตุที่แท้จริงยังไม่ปรากฏแน่ชัด

• ความผิดปกติในช่วงไตรมาสแรกของการตั้งครรภ์

• เกิดจากความผิดปกติของยีนส์ และปัจจัยจากสิ่งแวดล้อม เช่น โรคของมารดา การขาดสารอาหาร หรือยาเสพติด

สถิต

• ในทุกๆ 3 นาที ทั่วโลก มีเด็กหนึ่งคนที่เกิดมาพร้อมกับภาวะปากแหว่งเพดานโหว่

• เด็ก 1 ใน 700 ราย มีภาวะปากแหว่ง หรือเพดานโหว่ บางรายมีอาการทั้งสองอย่าง

• ในประเทศไทยโดยเฉลี่ยจะมีเด็ก 2,000 รายต่อปีที่มีภาวะปากแหว่ง หรือเพดานโหว่ ยังไม่รวมถึงชาวเขา หรือผู้ลี้ ภัยที่ยังไม่ทราบจานวนแน่นอน

รูปแบบโครงการการให้ความช่วยเหลือ

1. โครงการหน่วยแพทย์เคลื่อนที่ให้การผ่าตัดภายในหนึ่งสัปดาห์

   เป็นการระดมบุคลากรแพทย์อาสาสมัครจากสาขาศัลยแพทย์ตกแต่ง วิสัญญีแพทย์ และพยาบาลอาสาสมัครจากที่ ต่างๆ เพื่อออกหน่วยมอบการผ่าตัดศัลยกรรมแก้ไขภาวะปากแหว่งเพดานโหว่ ความผิดปกติพิการบนใบหน้า และความพิการทาง ศัลยศาสตร์ตกแต่งอื่น ๆ เช่น แผลเป็นหดรั้งจากไฟไหม้ น้าร้อนลวก นิ้วติด นิ้วเกิน ให้แก่ผู้ป่วยในพื้นที่ที่ห่างไกลความเจริญ หรือ ขาดศัลยแพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญในพื้นที่ทาการรักษาผู้ป่วย

2. โครงการผ่าตัดแบบต่อเนื่อง ไม่จากัดระยะเวลา

   มูลนิธิสร้างรอยยิ้ม ยังวางรูปแบบการรักษาเพื่อรองรับผู้ป่วยให้ได้ครอบคลุมยิ่งขึ้น ด้วยการเปิดโครงการแบบต่อเนื่อง ไม่จากัดระยะเวลา ซึ่งเกิดขึ้นในประเทศไทยเป็นประเทศแรกในเครือข่ายของมูลนิธิสร้างรอยยิ้มทั่วโลก โดยมูลนิธิฯ จะขอเปิด โครงการกับโรงพยาบาลที่มีศัลยแพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ แต่ขาดเงินทุนในการผ่าตัดรักษาผู้ป่วย และระดมทุนเพื่อหางบประมาณ สนับสนุนการผ่าตัดตามจานวนผู้ป่วยที่ได้กาหนดกับทางโรงพยาบาล ผู้ป่วยจึงสามารถเข้ารับการรักษาตามเวลาที่สะดวก โดยมี ศัลยแพทย์ประจาจากทางโรงพยาบาลให้การผ่าตัด และดูแลหลังการผ่าตัดอย่างต่อเนื่อง ผู้ป่วยสามารถเข้ารับการรักษาใน ช่วงเวลาที่สะดวกตั้งแต่เปิดโครงการจนกว่าจานวนผู้ป่วยครบตามกาหนดที่ตั้งไว้

3. โครงการดูแลหลังการผ่าตัด

   การให้การดูแลอย่างต่อเนื่องในกรณีที่ผู้ป่วยได้รับการประเมินว่าต้องการการรักษาเพิ่มเติมในขั้นตอนต่อไปจาก บุคลากรแพทย์อาสาในโครงการของทางมูลนิธิฯ ซึ่งได้แก่ แคมป์ฝึกพูด การผ่าตัดปรับโครงสร้างใบหน้า การดูแลเฉพาะรายที่ต้อง ใช้เวลาต่อเนื่อง (Individual Cases)
