เมื่อโรงพยาบาลรามาธิบดี เป็นด่านหน้าของสถานพยาบาลที่ดีที่สุดในการรักษาผู้ป่วยที่เข้าขั้นวิกฤติ รพ.จึงต้องการความช่วยเหลือจำนวนมากเพื่อสนับสนุนการดูแลผู้ป่วยให้หายเป็นปกติโดยเร็วที่สุดให้ได้

กองทุนฯ นี้ จึงก่อตั้งขึ้นแบบองค์กรไม่แสวงผลกำไร โดยมีจุดมุ่งหมายเรื่องการช่วยเหลือผู้ป่วยที่เกี่ยวข้องกับโรคทางระบบประสาท และต้องรักษาชีวิตผู้ป่วยอย่างเต็มที่ที่สุด ดังนั้น พันธกิจของกองทุนจึงตั้งเป้าการดำเนินงานไว้ที่ 4 บทบาทหลัก ในการสนับสนุนให้กองทุนช่วยเหลือผู้ป่วยตามจุดมุ่งหมายได้อย่างเต็มประสิทธิภาพ

ดำเนินการผ่าตัดรักษาผู้ป่วยโรคที่เกี่ยวกับระบบประสาท เช่น ผู้ป่วยที่มีภาวะเลือดออกในสมอง โรคมะเร็ง อาการที่เกี่ยวกับกระดูกสันหลัง ปัญหาเรื่องดวงตา ไปจนถึงการผ่าตัดรักษาเมื่อผู้ป่วยติดเชื้อ และอีกหลากหลายกรณี
สนับสนุนอุปกรณ์ทางการแพทย์ และช่วยเหลือในส่วนที่เกี่ยวข้อง เช่น ค่าจัดหาอุปกรณ์เฉพาะทางเข้าโรงพยาบาลมากขึ้น และค่าปรับปรุงห้องผ่าตัดให้เหมาะสมกับผู้ป่วยเฉพาะทางระบบประสาท เพื่อให้ครอบคลุมกับการรักษาผู้ป่วยจำนวนมาก ไปจนถึงการรักษาผู้ป่วยขาดแคลนทุนทรัพย์ ซึ่งกลายเป็นความรับผิดชอบที่โรงพยาบาลจะต้องรักษาชีวิตคนไข้ไว้เป็นสิ่งสำคัญก่อนอันดับแรก
ดำเนินการวิจัยเพื่อมุ่งประโยชน์เรื่องการรักษาโรคที่เกี่ยวกับระบบประสาท เช่น การคัดเลือกอาสาสมัครเข้าร่วมโครงการทดสอบตั้งแต่ต้นจนจบ โดยมีค่าใช้จ่ายตั้งแต่การเดินทางครั้งแรก ไปจนถึงเมื่อการทดสอบเสร็จสิ้น เพื่อให้ผลลัพธ์การวิจัยเกิดประสิทธิผลมากที่สุด
การพัฒนา และจัดหลักสูตรฝึกอบรมให้กับบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ ทั้งในและนอกประเทศ เพื่อให้บุคลากรก้าวทันวิทยาการทางด้านระบบประสาท และเตรียมพร้อมรับมือกับผู้ป่วยทางระบบประสาทด้วยวิธีการที่ทันสมัยอยู่เสมอ เพื่อเพิ่มโอกาสในการรักษาผู้ป่วยให้มากขึ้นกว่าเดิม
